Readers brighten holidays

DONATIONS STREAM IN FOR MN'S ANNUAL HOLIDAY WISH BOOK PROJECT

Mercury News

You can tell it's Wish Book ``season'' at the Mercury News.

Even in this down economy, stacks of envelopes bearing donations started landing at our front counter on Monday morning -- the day after the 2002 Holiday Wish Book was published. The Wish Book Web site has been humming with readers filling up virtual ``shopping carts'' with items for neighbors in need. The phone rings all day with readers offering to volunteer their time to help others.

For 19 years, Mercury News readers have been learning about community needs through the Holiday Wish Book. Many choose to take the next step and make the holidays brighter by sending in a tax-deductible contribution toward helping their neighbors.

Some readers dedicate their donations in honor or memory of others. Following is a partial list of donors; look for more names throughout the holiday season.
