Newspaper Activities
for Young Students (K-2)
Have
the students:
1.
Cut out pictures of people that look like members of their families
2.
Find pictures of transportation vehicles, such as cars, bikes, motor
homes, etc.
3.
Locate pictures of community helpers like firefighters, nurses,
doctors, teachers, etc.
4.
Find examples of square, circles, rectangles and triangles.
5.
Cut out the numbers 1-10.
6.
Cut out their first names and then their last names. Have them use
letters from the headlines.
7.
Find letters to make the names of their brothers, sisters, cousins,
or friends.
8.
Search for examples of degrees, such as small, smaller, smallest.
9.
Find opposite words, like hot-cold, big-small, wet-dry, etc.
10.
Make a 26 page alphabet book. Have them put one letter at the top
of each page and paste examples of each letter that they have clipped
from the newspaper on the correct page. Also, have them paste words
and pictures that start with each letter and paste them on the appropriate
page.
