Newspaper Activities
for Students in Grades 6-8
Have
Students:
1.
Cut out pictures that are interesting to them. Have them tell the
class why it interests them or ask them to make up a story about
the picture
2.
Look for stories about animals and then tell (orally or in writing)
whether or not they'd like to have the animal in their homes, if
it would make a good pet, and what they think it would eat.
3.
Find a picture in the newspaper that reminds them of someone they
know. Why is it familiar? Why does it remind them of the person
they know?
4.
Listen as someone reads jokes they found in the newspaper. Then
ask them if they can repeat a joke.
5.
Look for and then read story in the newspaper about pollution. Cut
out five pictures of things that create pollution.
6.
Find pictures of five things to drink. Cut out the pictures and
write a story about which of these drinks they like best and why.
7.
Find pictures of five things to wear. Cut out the pictures and make
a collage with their favorite think in the most prominent place.
8.
Create families by cutting out pictures and placing them in different
family roles.
9.
Find examples of things to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch.
10.
Draw a comic strip with their friends and families as the main characters.
